Amendment of Polytechnic Establishment
Act The newly constituted governing council members, and principal officers of Federal Polytechnics and National Board for
Technical Education (NBTE) have called for the amendment of the law establishing the federal polytechnics. Rev (Dr.) Alexander Lar)-Head Yaba College of Technology Governing Council
This call was made at a two-day retreat organised for newly appointed members
of the governing councils of federal polytechnics and their principal officers in Kaduna recently.
In a Communiqué issued at the end of the workshop, the participants agreed
that there is the need for the laws setting up federal polytechnics to be amended to allow NBTE to be represented on the Councils
of the federal polytechnics as is the case with Colleges of Education.
Pending the amendment, the participants agreed that the federal polytechnics
should co-opt NBTE representative as ex-officio members on the board of governing councils. |
- 20 New Academic Programmes take off
- The Academic Board of Yaba College of Technology has approved the take off
of 20 new academic Programmes at the National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and PostGraduate Diploma levels.

- The Deputy Rector, Academics, Mrs. Jokotade Agbaje-Williams dropped this
hint in an interview with The Tech News Editorial Team in her office recently.

- According to her , the programmes were introduced in response to the needs
of the Colleges' immediate environment and in line with her mission coupled with the needs of the industrial and manufacturing
sectors in the country.

- Mrs. Agbaje-Williams said that the new programmes approved by the Academic
Board comprised six (6) National Diploma (ND) programmes: Mass Communication, Banking and Finance, Marine Engineering, Instrumentation
Engineering, Agricultural Engineering and Chemical Engineering.

- Of the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, she said, the College approved
the take off of Marketing, Public Administration, Science Laboratory with Environmental Biology option, and Electrical Engineering
with an option in Computer Engineering.
The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes, she said would be available in Quantity
Surveying, Industrial Design with option in Textiles, Ceramics, Graphics, Biochemistry, Computer Science, and Microbiology.
Others; she added, include PGD in Physics with Electronics, Statistics and Food Science. |
